It was another day of frustration for fans as well as players from both India and Bangladesh as only 30.1 overs were possible on the fourth day. A lot happened during this phase, if one were to look for highlights. Imrul Kayes completed an unbeaten half-century, continuing his good form, Tamim Iqbal overtook Habibul Bashar as the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh in Tests, Mominul Haque couldn’t equal AB de Villiers’ record of 12 half-centuries while Harbhajan Singh picked up his first wicket on comeback to international cricket after two years.

Knowing very well that there wasn’t enough time for Bangladesh to be bowled out twice, the hosts attacked the Indian bowlers from the start. Tamim began in his usual aggressive fashion and hit three boundaries before Ravichandran Ashwin got him with one that dipped on the batsman, beat his bat and went into Wriddhiman Saha’s gloves. Tamim was drawn out of his crease, and Saha had his first stumping in Tests. Kayes, however, continued to attack. He raced away to his third half-century, never looking in too much trouble out in the middle.

Mominul, who was chasing a record, seemed a bit off-colour. He struggled against the pace of Umesh Yadav, and edged a couple of boundaries. Harbhajan did not begin confidently on comeback, but he and Ashwin in tandem began to keep things tight. Bangladesh had got closer to 100 in 24 overs, but then followed a period when only four runs came in four overs.

Kayes managed to find a few boundaries, but after a while Mominul’s luck ran out. He mishit Harbhajan down the ground where Yadav took a simple catch, and Mominul fell 20 short of de Villiers’ record. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim did not last long, as he was dismissed bat pad to Ashwin. Shakib Al Hasan had only faced a few deliveries when the rain come down, and prevented any further play.
