Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by a narrow margin of 2 runs at Kingsmead in Durban. Young Virat Kohli pulled off a victory almost for RCB when they needed 13 runs to win from the final over in a chase of 166. Kohli reduced the equation to 3 from the final ball and that was when he got a leading edge off a Zaheer Khan full toss which was caught by the Wicket Keeper Rayudu under tremendous pressure.
Batting first after winning the toss, Mumbai Indians slipped into a mess at 84 for 5 in 13 overs, but miraculously almost doubled their total to finish at 165 for 7. Saurabh Tiwary with his 38 (from 30 balls with 3 fours and a six) produced a gem of an innings to help Mumbai post a competitive total on the board. Dwayne Bravo also came good with a vital 29 from 17 balls. The best bowlers for RCB were Dale Steyn with 3 for 26 and Vinay Kumar with mean figures of 4-0-16-1.
RCB were steady in their run chase which was anchored by Rahul Dravid. One by one, Mumbai Indians got rid of all the dangerous hitters and when the pair of Dravid and Kohli was in the middle, victory was just far away for RCB. However, Kohli played a sensational cameo of 47 from 24 balls (with 5 fours and 2 sixes) to keep RCB alive until he got out in the final ball. Rahul Dravid on the other hand failed to get the big shots coming and he stayed unbeaten on 71 from 58 balls (with 8 fours).
